Thousands of pounds of pressure can be sealed with the help of o-rings. It is a solid-rubber seal that is shaped like a doughnut. When compressed between two surfaces, it blocks the passage of gases or liquids like water.

O-rings come in a variety of standard sizes and materials. For the swimming pool pump and filter o-rings, the material used is usually EPDM rubber. For chlorinator o-rings, Fluorocarbon, Viton, or FKM can be utilized to finish the material. Others use less expensive materials like Nitrile rubber for o-rings that are of Buna-N type.

Remember that using Vaseline or any petroleum-based lubricants on your pool or its parts will degrade the quality of your swimming pool experience as it deteriorates gaskets and o-rings. When mechanically sealing through o-rings, we recommend that you use a silicone lubricant so that the o-rings will avoid drying and cracking.

When replacing your gaskets, remember the model number of the valve that needs a replacement gasket. This will be a big help in determining which type of gaskets must be used.
